CV writing tips for graduates

Research who you are sending it to - It sounds crazy to say but don't blanket send out your CV without first understanding the business you are approaching...and never CC all the companies into 1 email that you are applying to. (Sounds like common sense but you would be surprised.)

No more than 2 pages - simple, clear, concise, direct, targeted text and/or design. If you want to send images it is easy for us to quickly scan through more pages in emailed PDF format.

Put your best work up front - Don't send us your 100 meter swimming certificates. Not a life story, just the things that are most applicable to our business. That said...health and safety experience, driving licenses etc. can be useful to know.

Include a covering letter/email - Often more can be gathered about a person from the way they compose a letter than a formulated CV so although it is important to break down your experience, make sure you write a little introduction which tells us why we should take notice.

Think outside the box - We are a creative agency and respond well to good ideas. Your CV may not need it but feel free to add some personality and style. Once there was an animation graduate who when applying to his chosen animation company in London, produced a detailed storyboard of a character called Super Runner who made incredible cups of tea and coffee at super human speed....he got the job! Ideas, personality, talent and a humble attitude.

Don't get upset if we don't reply but feel free to re-submit - It would literally be a full time job if we were to reply to every single CV that comes in daily and as such, and with all respect, we have decided not to respond unless a specific job role arises, in which case a response or call to interview will be mailed out. Remember that rejection is part of the industry you are entering into as an idea can never appeal to everyone, so don't let it get you down for too long. Learn to bounce back quick as that company might not be right for you at that time.

Send a link - If possible create a simple website for yourself or even a MySpace. Web links are easy to follow and are always viewed.

***********************************************************
