Success at Brest Fest France
More awards for Leaving
Omni Short; Leaving has achieved more greatness by winning the official jury prize; Prix d’Interprétation at the 24th Brest European Short Film festival. Unfortunately we weren't present at the ceremony but naturally are just as delighted to have been told over the phone. We'd like to thank the organisers and the jury for their decision, especially festival director; Bernard Boulad who we had the pleasure to meet at the Krakow Film Fest in June of this year. We look forward to getting the opportunity to attend in future years!
+ Here is a wonderful review of the film from French Newspaper Le Telegramme following the screening at Brest.
"Never and I say this weighing the word carefully, has a film either long or short, dealt with the problem of domestic violence so well. Leaving an English film of 22 minutes is a gigantic slap in the face, and a universal truth with an elegance and a perfect tension. It is a monument to direction, a peak of writing, and an amazing feat of acting. It is at the same time an honour to short film making and an indispensable scratch to a social itch. Leaving should be shown every where and all of the time, and is showing is by itself to justify the best programming of the year.
It doesn't matter about the prizes, it doesn't matter what happens next. In treating as well a potentially and eminently treacherous subject - at the same time avoiding all of the traps, all the misapprehensions and all of the judgements of the moral majority, Leaving is a pure masterpiece. End of story."
God I love the French…
