How We Work
The Winning Formula

How we work:

1. Initial meeting: This is to discuss ideas, objectives, output and delivery requirements such as deadlines, technical formats and desired budgets. At this point, potential creative approaches can be discussed as part of the treatment i.e. narrative, tone, themes as well as stylistic techniques - motion graphics, sound track composition etc.

2. The creative brief: This is created either by the client, or after working through the project objectives by both Omni and the client.

3. Schedule and budget: This is drawn up based on the agreed brief. Once agreed, Omni raise a Purchase Order for client sign-off. Depending on the urgency of production deadline and logistics (e.g. level of motion graphics required, dates of specific events to cover), time scale for completion of films can be anything from four to twelve weeks.

4. Script development: The script provides the ideal structure and content of the proposed film and has to be signed off by a client before production begins. We work towards the script throughout production (the shoot) and post-production (the edit). Rather than following scripted dialogue when working with non-actors - i.e. students and university staff, we find natural comments and responses offer the best sound bites, so we use the script as a guide to draw out desired dialogue.

5. The shoot: This typically takes place over 3-5 working days, which can be in succession or spread out over longer period due to specific events, availability of subjects etc. (for example a sporting, promotional event, cultural event that pin-points the film’s theme and must be included as part of the overall message). The crew usually consists of director/producer, camera operator, sound recordist and assistant.

6. The edit: Footage is digitally batched into our edit suite, and the client is invited to sit in on the shaping of the film. Alternatively a first cut can be produced and uploaded onto the Omni Project Management Site for approval. Subsequent edits, including finalised soundtrack and grade, can also be encoded for web and uploaded onto the project management site or delivered on DVD for final sign off.
